NHLA Among Presenters at Annual Domestic Violence Conference

NHLA was excited to participate in this year's Partnering for a Future Without Violence Conference. The conference was held on September 6-7, 2023 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Manchester, and was sponsored by the New Hampshire Attorney General's Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect and the Office of Victim/Witness Assistance.

During the two-day conference, paralegal Erin Jasina and attorney Mary Krueger presented on domestic violence and stalking civil protective orders.

“Protective orders represent the best legal protection survivors of domestic violence can have against their abusers,” said Erin. “Unfortunately, the majority of survivors do not seek a protective order, and of those that do, only 12 percent receive legal representation. The number of survivors who actually receive a protective order against their abuser is frighteningly small.”

130 people signed up for Erin and Mary’s presentation including prosecutors, law enforcement, crisis center advocates, therapists, and professionals from other various disciplines. By the end of the presentation, attendees understood the different types of protection orders available, the relief they provide, and how victims and survivors of domestic violence can obtain protection.

Digital copies of handouts distributed during the presentation are available here under “Domestic Violence.”
