Statement of NH Legal Assistance Policy Director Dawn McKinney:

“If officials in New Hampshire use the ruling last week from the US. Supreme Court as an excuse to remove people from state land, they will create dangerous and dehumanizing conditions for unhoused people in our state, and push the costs of housing onto the local welfare offices of our cities and towns.

As our cities and towns experience pressure on their local welfare budgets, we expect more people than ever to seek legal aid to address wrongful denials of service, and we will try to meet this need as best we can.

Providing access to affordable housing is the best known strategy for addressing homelessness. We will continue to work with partners across the state to protect access to safe, affordable housing for Granite Staters.”
